Barnum Community Orchard

This is the final design for a food forest in the Barnum neighborhood in Denver that my group and I created in the 2018/2019 Permaculture Design Course. It will be the first public food forest in the Denver area. Our design includes:

  • several fruit tree polycultures

  • a medicinal herbal sanctuary

  • goats and a goat buffet

  • a pollinator garden

  • a community-sourced garden

  • fruit-bearing hedges

  • compost bins

  • a functional windmill sculpture

  • several shelters made from pallets that collect rainwater in their benches and provide trellises for edible and medicinal vines with educational signage about each

  • solar-powered cafe lights

  • a community cob oven

  • murals of medicinal "weeds"

  • a large gathering space/outdoor classroom

  • community-created mosaic pavers to celebrate the biodiversity of the orchard and to gamify the learning about each.
